Normal?

Writer's picture: DougDoug

It’s so unfair to suffer like this. All I ever wanted was to be normal. To be married have a stable job and holidays twice a year. What I have got is a mind that is wired up completely differently. It’s as if whoever made me was on a Friday shift and opened the top of my head and stuffed all the wires in anyhow! What is normal? Am I normal? Are you normal? We are all individuals and require understanding. We are here to help you and each other. Normal is boring.

It’s not your fault at all. I am only just beginning to understand the disorder and it seems to be a real mix genetics and environment. We can’t help either of those things. The future can be better with the right help, even for those of us wired differently.

Oh absolutely and it’s something that requires a lot of help. They don’t even offer treatment here at all, or diagnosis. If we’d left it all to the NHS, my son wouldn’t be here. There are specialists and courses out there but they are often private. Luckily my son gets PIP to allow for the fact that he is so disabled by it 😞
