I must have written thousands of words in this series of blogs. Thousands of words that still don’t have the power and meaning of so many of the songs we used to listen to. It seems broken hearts aren’t a modern concept and all that could be said has been said countless times before. I’m only just able to start to listen to these songs again without bursting into tears, so it shows some progress.
There are so many songs that express how I feel. That’s the sign of good poetry or prose, that it speaks to everyone about different things. You have a choice how to feel when you listen or read. You can have memories of great times but in remembering those tunes or poems you risk becoming heartbroken again. You would think that you would come immune to those triggers but you don’t. I think that eventually your heart becomes less and less broken the more you listen, but doesn’t lessen the memories.
One of my all time favourites and from one of my favourite films ‘Highlander’

Just one year of love Is better than a lifetime alone One sentimental moment in your arms Is like a shooting star right through my heart It's always a rainy day without you I'm a prisoner of love inside you I'm falling apart all around you, yeah My heart cries out to your heart I'm lonely but you can save me My hand reaches for to your hand I'm cold but you light the fire in me My lips search for your lips I'm hungry for your touch There's so much left unspoken And all I can do is surrender To the moment just surrender
And no one ever told me that love would hurt so much Ooh yes it hurts And pain is so close to pleasure And all I can do is surrender to your love Just surrender to your love Just one year of love Is better than a lifetime alone One sentimental moment in your arms Is like a shooting star right through my heart It's always a rainy day without you I'm a prisoner of love inside you I'm falling apart all around you And all I can do is surrender
